We also offer other services such as a sanitary trims, medicated baths, and nail dremeling.

To ensure your pet’s safety, we require all pets to be current on vaccines before being admitted for grooming or bathing.

There are Multiple Advantages to Providing Regular Grooming for Your Pets:

  • Improves appearance of the coat
  • Maintains the health of the skin
  • Helps remove excess hair during a change in season
  • Removes mats and snarls in the coat
  • Keeps your pet smelling fresh
  • Helps keep dirt and dander out of your house and off your furniture
  • Prevents injury to the paws when the nails get too long
  • Keep long nails from scratching your floors and furniture
  • Relieves discomfort in the anal glands and prevents health complications

Midway Animal Hospital has professional animal groomers on staff available by appointment Monday through Friday. One of the advantages of having professional groomers working alongside our veterinarians, is if they spot any potential health problems with your pet during grooming, the veterinarians are available to take a look right away. Our groomers are excellent at spotting skin infections, fleas or ticks, ear problems, and suspicious lumps and bumps.

How Often Should You Get Your Pet Groomed?

That depends on the pet and your lifestyle. Some breeds with longer coats and floppy ears may need more frequent grooming. Likewise, animals that spend a lot of time outdoors may need to come in for a bath or brushing more frequently. Here are some factors that may indicate your cat or dog needs regular grooming appointments:

  • Breeds with long coats
  • Breeds with hair that keeps growing and needs to be cut periodically
  • Pets prone to ear infections, such as those with floppy ears or who spend a lot of time in moist environments
  • Pets prone to problems with the anal glands
  • Dogs that swim frequently, play in the mud, or get dirty outdoors
  • Service dogs that may be exposed to undesirable substances
  • Dogs or cats whose coats get easily tangled or snarled
  • Cats prone to obsessive grooming or that suffer from frequent hairballs
  • Pets prone to skin problems, like allergies, hot spots, or infections
  • Pets that sleep or climb on your furniture
  • Senior cats who may not be able to groom themselves as well as they used to

If you have a dog with hair that grows continually, you’ll probably need to bring your pooch in about every 6 to 8 weeks for a haircut. Just like cutting your hair, once you’ve been through a few haircut cycles, you’ll know how often to make an appointment.

If you’re just bringing your pup or cat in to get cleaned up, talk to our groomers about your pet’s habits and your lifestyle, so we can decide when to set up your next grooming. You may find that your pet needs more grooming during certain seasons than others.

In Between Grooming Sessions, Follow These Tips to Keep Your Pets Looking and Feeling Good:

  • Give your dog or cat a regular brushing or combing to help remove excess hair, and to prevent snags.
  • After going swimming or getting dirty during play, hose your dog down in the yard or give your dog a wash in the bathtub.
  • Keep an eye on the length of the nails. Some pets may need a tiny nail trim in between sessions, depending on how fast they grow and how active your pet is.
  • After playing outdoors, especially in the woods or tall brush, inspect your pet for twigs or burrs, and look for fleas, ticks, or other insects.
  • Be sure to use year-round protection from fleas and ticks, available from Midway Animal Hospital. Even with these treatments, however, you may still see some unwanted stowaways on your pet’s coat. If so, give us a call to see what you can do to rid your pet of these pests.
  • Give your pet a regular once over with a flea comb, and ask your veterinarian to show you how to check for flea dirt.
If your dog has floppy ears, lift them up and look for any signs or smells that could indicate the presence of an ear infection. Your dog may also be scratching at the ears or shaking its head.

In order to protect your pet and other pets visiting Midway Animal Hospital, all vaccines must be current for grooming.
